Newfoundland Capital Q2 income rises $6.4M
DARTMOUTH, N.S. - Radio broadcaster Newfoundland Capital Corp. (TSX:NCC) posted a profit of $6.4 million in the second quarter, up from $5.8 million last year a revenues rose five per cent. Sales came in at $27.4 million, up from $26.2 million last year, with broadcasting revenue in the quarter coming in at $26.5 million, $1.3 million better than last year. The earnings amounted to 56 cents per share, compared with 51 cents in the quarter last year.

Loeb, Dominion, A&P to be rebranded as Metro
OTTAWA - The Metro supermarket chain is dropping the Loeb, A&P, Dominion and other brand names. It said Thursday that 158 stores across Ontario will carry the Metro name following a 15-month-long transition. The Food Basics chain of discount stores will keep its name. "The decision to rebrand under the Metro name is part of a long-term strategy to capitalize on operational and marketing efficiencies," said Eric La Fleche, president and CEO of Metro Inc.

Awarded: Largest settlement in Canadian trademark case
NEW YORK - LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA, the biggest luxury-goods maker, said a Canadian court awarded the company $1 million in a trademark lawsuit against a closely held apparel company. The award by the Supreme Court of British Columbia is the biggest in a Canadian trademark case, LVMH said Thursday in a statement. B.C.-based Wynnie Lee Fashion was told to pay $20,000 for each infringement, LVMH said.
